Free Write Dialogue. Week 2.

Free write is unruled writing. It has no rules, walls, or boundaries. It's a continuous time of writing that allows the extra thoughts in your head a place to unload. It helps the student organize the brain and the unconscious thoughts that bounce around through the days. It clears space for room to keep more important organized thoughts. Free write helps put ideas out on "paper" and then later on, the student is able to look back and organize the ideas and form them into a paper.

One thing that struck my eye was the part about clearing the mind of these toxic fragments of thought. I've always been one to "doodle" on any type of writing material. I'm thinking now that it was my subconscious thoughts that needed to be deleted from my brain to clear out the space in order to keep the chaos down. I found that this week, when doing a free write, I was able to express in writing, my thoughts that had been bothering me. I noticed that once I wrote them out a few times, the idea didn't come up out of thin air as much. I guess free writing is a cheap low dose therapy!

Summary for Chapter 46

Chapter 46 covers the information for writing about texts. It explains the different types of texts. It helps the student point out different ideas and how to breakdown the text's content. It helps the student differ between emotion/reaction/analysis and how to summarize without putting your own viewpoint on things. It helps how to write out our own summary and analysis, making sure the seperate the ideas while keeping the content concise.

Week One. Intro on me.

Hello!
I'm Ariana, or just Ari. ( 'R'-'E'). I'm a part-time student at SRJC. . I have 3 kids that keep my extremely busy. I have 2 girls (7y & 5y) and 1 little ball of energy Son that just turned 1 year old. I'm married to the most wonderful, supportive, and hardworking man. I'm from the East Bay, but have been living in Sonoma County for 18 years. I go back to the East Bay a lot of visit with my family.

I'm working on getting my RN finished and moving on to the next stage of my life. I've been going to the JC now for 7-ish years. Wow. Just writing 7 years seems like I've been taking forever to finish this. My career goal is to complete my RN and work as a labor and delivery nurse at Kaiser. I've been volunteering at Kaiser for about 3 years now in the Mom/Baby unit. I get a lot of experience from talking with other nurses and it's a great way to get my foot in the door with Kaiser. Sometimes I think I want to go towards a more "education" approach with my nursing and be able to work with teen moms. I was a teen mom, and I wish there was more resources in the medical field that were geared toward young parents.

I've taken a few online courses. They are challenging in the way that I need to be more focused and disciplined. I'm easily distracted and find that working online on the JC campus helps me stay connected to my work and not wonder to clean something or web surf. I expect honest feedback from this class and from my peers taking this course with me. I plan getting some new experiences with my writing and exploring new ways of connecting with different reading materials and relating to them.
I look forward to "meeting" the rest of you and enjoying this upcoming semester!
