Week One. Intro on me.

Hello!
I'm Ariana, or just Ari. ( 'R'-'E'). I'm a part-time student at SRJC. . I have 3 kids that keep my extremely busy. I have 2 girls (7y & 5y) and 1 little ball of energy Son that just turned 1 year old. I'm married to the most wonderful, supportive, and hardworking man. I'm from the East Bay, but have been living in Sonoma County for 18 years. I go back to the East Bay a lot of visit with my family.

I'm working on getting my RN finished and moving on to the next stage of my life. I've been going to the JC now for 7-ish years. Wow. Just writing 7 years seems like I've been taking forever to finish this. My career goal is to complete my RN and work as a labor and delivery nurse at Kaiser. I've been volunteering at Kaiser for about 3 years now in the Mom/Baby unit. I get a lot of experience from talking with other nurses and it's a great way to get my foot in the door with Kaiser. Sometimes I think I want to go towards a more "education" approach with my nursing and be able to work with teen moms. I was a teen mom, and I wish there was more resources in the medical field that were geared toward young parents.

I've taken a few online courses. They are challenging in the way that I need to be more focused and disciplined. I'm easily distracted and find that working online on the JC campus helps me stay connected to my work and not wonder to clean something or web surf. I expect honest feedback from this class and from my peers taking this course with me. I plan getting some new experiences with my writing and exploring new ways of connecting with different reading materials and relating to them.
I look forward to "meeting" the rest of you and enjoying this upcoming semester!

-Ari

  1. I also have 3 children, ages 6, 3, and one month. I just had my one month old at Kaiser December 12th. I do not believe that I met you during my stay. We have quite a bit in common. I wasl also a teen mom, having my 6 year old when I was 17. My sister is a labor and delivery nurse in Manteca. I bet it is a rewarding career, helping to bring babies into the world. I have also taken a few online classes. I tend to like online better than face-to-face classes because I am very shy. I feel that it is easier for me to open up and conversate with my fellow classmates in the online form. I wish you luck in your pursuit to become a labor and delivery nurse.

  2. Hi Ariana,
I love that you are trying to create better help for teen moms since you were one. You seem to have a lot of passion for that which is great. Having someone who is behind you the whole way is so important and i am pretty sure you are one of the view who have that, coming from the guys i have been with i wasn't that lucky. Going to school for 7-ish years haha is okay this just means that you have a lot of determination to get to where you want to be in life and this is a very respectful trait because it means you never give up on what you want. I think you having kids and still going after your dream is really awesome.

  4. Hi Ari!

I really liked reading your blog. Reading your blog really reminded me of my mom when she was raising both my brother and I while she was working full time and was studying to become a Certified Medical Assistant full time as well. All I got to say is if you really want it, you will get what you want, you just go to set your mind to it. There is no one holding you back but your self, because in the end, you are the one making all the decisions. I wish you much luck in your future endeavors and I look forward to working with you in this class.

  5. Hi Ariana,

I'm glad you've decided to take this class. I think online courses are perfect to take when you have children. I completed an online certificate, and it gave me flexibility, which I needed at the time. My biggest issue was needing to complete work early, in order to be proactive and anticipate the little emergencies that inevitably pop up.

I also have two girls, 4 and 6, who keep me busy. I imagine having a third is an incredible amount of work.

Looking forward to working with you!

    Take care,
    Lauren

  6. (: Hi Ariana!

I don't have any of my own, but 3 sounds like a lot of work. It is not impossible but I'm sure you are a dedicated person. I agree, taking online courses are challenging because you do have to be disciplined. Going on to the JC campus is a good idea so that you are not distracted. Web surfing, and cleaning...funny you would say that because I am doing just that. Well I look forward to working with you this semester.

  7. Hey Ari!

Wow I am fascinated by all the things you have going on. Your a mom of 3 children and your still trying to finish your education. I think its great that you want to work with teens moms since it relates to you. I'm a teen mom as well I just had my baby this last November and I turned 18 in august. I think its wonderful because I had great nurses that related to me and having that there helped me a lot through my recovery. I hope you make it and wish you the best of luck!

  8. Hi Ari,
I have the same thoughts about my education; it seems to be taking so long. I want to learn so much and there are so many wonderful programs available at the J.C. I have realized that I don’t have the luxury of not working so it will take some time, but we will get there eventually. At least you are working somewhere and gaining the experience in the field that you are interested in.
I love Kaiser and the staff in the delivery unit. I had my son there. I had a lot of complications and I ended up have an emergency C-section, I really had no idea how serious it was because everyone was so calm and efficient.
Having a supportive person aiding you with everything that you are doing is a must. I don’t think I give my husband enough credit, but without him I couldn’t do what I’m doing. Raising a child, going to school and working would be too much. I hope he knows that and I hope yours husband knows that too. Wow. I couldn’t imagine with three children. Way to go mom.
